The action is expected to encourage a more widespread involvement of workers’ participation in a formal voice mechanism in metal sector companies where workers have had to confront cycles of disruption and adaptation driven by health risks and new business imperatives involving staff cuts, furloughs and business restructuring. Amidst anxiety over the future and isolation of workers for safety reasons, the companies’ leadership has an opportunity to connect to their workforce and established a relationship based on trust.
